Obituary Condolences

Ellen M. Chrissinger (Tschantre)

Ellen M. Chrissinger, 86, of Cherry Hill, NJ, lost her struggle with ALS on September 26, 2013.

Born in Baltimore, MD in 1926 to Arnold and Lillian Tschantre, Ellen received her nursing degree in 1948. A kind and compassionate caregiver, Ellen touched the lives of many. Along with classmates from the Baltimore area, Ellen travelled to New York and Arkansas to nurse victims of the polio epidemics in those states; she returned to the Baltimore area as a private duty nurse.

In 1952, Ellen married the love of her life, Ken Chrissinger, and left the workforce to become a full-time homemaker and Mom. Ken's work took them to New Jersey in 1955. While Ken traveled for business, Ellen was at home dealing with the antics of five children and a dog.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her two brothers, John and Carl Tschantre; her eldest son, John Kenneth; and her husband of 58 years, Ken. She is survived by son, David of Cherry Hill, NJ; daughter, Nancy Cobb and her husband, Raymond of Centreville, DE; daughter, Lisa of Warrenton, VA; son, Peter and his wife, Maureen of Frederick, MD; her grandson, Timothy Chrissinger and step-grandson, Raymond Brennan Cobb; and brother, Kenneth Tschantre and his wife, Rachel of Severna Park, MD.

The diagnosis of ALS is devastating, but Ellen both fought it tenaciously and accepted it with the same grace and faith she often displayed. Ellen's family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Alyssa of Holy Redeemer and Sandy of Spring Hill for their wonderful care of Ellen, and to the professionals and volunteers at the ALS Center for Hope at Drexel Medicine for their fine care of and compassion towards Ellen and for their true dedication to finding a cure for this disease. They also extend their gratitude to the many friends and colleagues who have provided much needed emotional support over the past two years.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Ellen's memory to the ALS Hope Foundation, P.O. Box 40777, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or
