"Erika with a K"
Erika Marie Espinosa, age 17, of Newark, DE passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
Erika was born on June 12, 1996 in Newark, Delaware and was soon to be a senior at St. Marks High School. She was a member of the Color Guard and Chorus. She loved all animals including her pets Catire and Roxy, was a member of PETA and volunteered at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center. She loved to be with her friends and brightened everyone's day with her infectious smile and hugs. Her love of music was well known among her friends and family as was her singing and dancing. Erika always tried to make people laugh and usually succeeded! She had an artistic flair which was evident in her makeup and style as well as her numerous activities including pottery, drawing and photography. She wanted to be a pastry artist and spent many hours in the kitchen practicing.
Erika was not afraid to be herself! She encouraged others to celebrate and embrace their uniqueness.
She spent the summers at her dad's house on the water in the Florida Keys where she was a certified boater, a certified scuba diver, and was also an avid fisherman and frequently lobstered by hand. In 2012 she painted with celebrated artist Pasta Pantaleo at his Signature Gallery in Islamorada FL and was planning on continuing that passion. She enjoyed typical Keys socializing which focuses on art, live entertainers and frequent festivals.
Erika is survived by her loving family, mother, Liliana M Espinosa and her partner Pamela Sachetta, father, Gene Graham and his wife Sharon of Tavernier, Florida, grandparents, Gladys and Federico Espinosa, of Newark, DE originally from Colombia, stepsister, Alyssa Asti, stepbrother, Michael Azimaz and his wife Rachel, uncles, Gustavo Espinosa and his wife Liliana, Fede Espinosa and his wife Alix Mabel, aunts, Lina Espinosa, Rocio Espinosa, Patricia Espinosa and her husband Augustine Perez, and her best friend Beth Dunlap of Elkton, MD.
