Foster Wilson Rennie, age 84 of Manassas, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
He was born on May 7, 1929 in Greig, NY, the son of the late Leo and Beatrice Rennie.
Foster graduated from Clarkson College in 1951 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and was awarded honorable mention in the AIChE National Student Design Competition. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1951 and served in Korea as Engineering Battalion Headquarters Company Commander and Engineering Company Commander where he received the Bronze Star for service in action against the enemy. After returning from Korea, he continued with the Army Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) in the Army of the United States (AUS). Foster worked for E.I DuPont his entire professional career as a corporate subject matter expert in filtration and separation and received numerous patents on behalf of DuPont. He was a published author in trade journals and in the Chemical Engineers Handbook.
Outside of his career, Foster devoted his energy and passion to teaching marksmanship to junior shooters and ensuring continued access to firearms for all Americans. He began with teaching his own children to shoot as part of the DuPont Fish and Game Association and continued to teach others until 2013; he was a certified NRA firearms instructor; refereed shooting matches of all varieties and served as head referee for the small-bore National Championship matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. Foster was a charter member of the Delaware State Sportsmen's Association where he served on the board of directors. He was an ardent supporter and advocate of our second amendment rights at the Delaware state legislature.
Foster is survived by his wife, Ann (Anderson) Rennie; his sons, Christopher Rennie, James Rennie (Kim) and Timothy Rennie (Nancy); his grandchildren, April, Kristen, Susan, Sara, Jonathan and Rebecca; his great-grandchildren, James, Rose, Hannah, Tucker, Cameron, Truman and Emma; his brothers, Virgil, David and Henry and his sister, Kathy Shampine.
In addition to his parents, Foster was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Rennie.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, DE, where family and friends may visit beginning at 5:00pm. Committal services will be held privately with his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware State Sportsmen's Association, F.W. Rennie Memorial, PO Box 94, Lincoln, DE 19960.
