Francis Fitzpatrick Obituary

Francis P.

Fitzpatrick III "Skip"

Age 57, peacefully passed away at home on March 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. After a short battle with cancer, he died in the same way he lived, with strength and love.

Born in Wilmington, Skip was the son of Patricia (Scott) and Francis P. Fitzpatrick Jr. He was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and Goldey Beacom College. He worked as a field agent for the State of Delaware Department of Labor for 25 years before his retirement in 2005. He was also a member of Corpus Christi Church.

He was best known for making others smile, usually with a witty remark or a practical joke. He was proud of his Irish heritage, always celebrating St. Patrick's Day and cheering for Notre Dame sports. He enjoyed vacations with his family and spent his retirement traveling to places like Walt Disney World, cruises to the Caribbean and a road trip along Route 10. He made the world a better place and his memory will be cherished by all of those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Catherine (Muzzi) Fitzpatrick; his daughters, Mary Frances Fitzpatrick, Kelly Ballas and her husband, Brad, and Tracy Collins and her husband, Dan; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Joyce Ballas and his "grand-pug" Samuel. Also surviving are his parents, Patricia and Francis P. Fitzpatrick Jr.; his brothers, Mark Fitzpatrick and his wife, Rosemary, Michael Fitzpatrick, Kevin Fitzpatrick, and Timmy Fitzpatrick; his sister, Eileen Fitzpatrick; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, March 27 between 5 and 8 pm at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10 am at Corpus Christi Church, 901 New Road, Elsmere. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Pearce Q Foundation, 4142 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Suite 227, Newark, DE 19713, which raises money to fight childhood cancer. Because to us, Skip will always be a "Toys R Us Kid".

Skip and I graduated from Goldey Beacom together. You both were kind enough to have our little group (Tim, Wendy, Audrey, Dave, Brenda, Harold, Diane, Schafferman and myself) over to your home. It was a blast. Skip always had great stories to share. I always think of those times when I ride past your development. Bless all of you. Hold tight to your memories.
