Frank H. Marine, age 86, a native Delawarean and longtime resident of Claymont, DE died May 16, 2013, after battling several illnesses for years.
Frank was born in Wilmington, DE, the third child of Anna Hayden Marine and John Wesley Marine. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors. Frank was also fond of horses and anything to do with the American West. He was a talented artist, as well.
A true patriot, Frank left school in 1943 to join the war effort. He worked building landing craft at Dravo Corp. in Wilmington. In 1945, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an expert rifleman, shooting just 10 points below the all-time Corps record.
After his service in WWII, Frank was a lineman for Delmarva Power for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was presented the IBEW Life Saving Award in 1968 for rescuing four teens trapped in an overturned car leaking fuel before it exploded.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Jr. and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; a son, Michael of Wilmington; sisters, Anita Biscoe of Smyrna and Gladys O'Neal of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.
A Committal Service will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701 at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 24, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marine Corps Museum, P.O. Box 998, Quantico, VA 22134 in memory of PFC Frank H. Marine, USMCR are suggested.
