Frank J. Pingatore Jr. Obituary
Frank J. Pingatore, Jr.

Frank Pingatore of Wilmington, DE passed away December 17, 2012 at the age of 82.

The son of the late Frank and Margaret Pingatore, he was the longtime owner of Pingatore Hair Designs. Prior to owning Pingatore Hair Designs, Frank was in the music business for many years. He began playing trumpet at an early age and became an accomplished professional player and had his own orchestra. He studied with Rhinehart for advanced trumpet skills and performed pop, jazz and rhythm & blues.

Frank attended Julliard for Composition and Theory and was a member of the ASCAP (American Society Composers, Authors, & Publishers) since 1955. He wrote many songs at an early age, and was the founder of Tinker Music Publishers. In 1953 Frank was presented a song, "Around the Clock," to revise, arrange, and rehearse with Bill Haley and the Comets. He arranged the union of country with rhythm & blues, wrote a new intro and revised the lyrics giving birth to "Rock Around the Clock"! He worked on many of Bill Haley and the Comets early hits, writing "Two Hound Dogs" and "Happy Baby," as well as writing for the Jodimars. In 1994, The Beatles album, "Live at the BBC," featured a song Frank wrote called "Clarabella." John Lennon introduced the song with "Now dig this," a reference to another song written by Frank, and the song was performed by Paul McCartney. Frank performed jazz trumpet with the late famous Clifford Brown and Lem Winchester. Frank was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Kennett, Concord, and Fieldstone Country Clubs. He was very proud of his board of directors trophy from Concord Country Club and well known for his "golf notes" with his friends.

Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Angelo. He is survived by his loving wife Joan; son Frank, III and wife Laura; and his loving grandchildren who were his greatest joy in life, Chad and Frank IV; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The Pingatore family would like to express their gratitude to Christiana Hospital and Cadia Pike Creek for their exemplary care.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19th from 6-8 pm at the McCRERY & HARRA Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202, S. of Silverside Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19803. A funeral will be held the following day at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lower Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Frank's name to Charter School of Wilmington, 100 N. DuPont Rd., Wilmington, DE 19807.
