George F. Taylor, Jr. of Jenner's Pond Retirement Community of West Grove, PA, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2013. He was a faithful and loving husband and father.
He was born in 1927 in Baltimore, MD, the only child to George F. Taylor Sr. and Sue T. Taylor (nee Leonard). George attended the Baltimore public schools, graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and immediately entered the Air Force. After completion of military service, George graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked 31 years for the DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE in textiles, explosives and plastics, and 7 years with Thiokol Chemical in Elkton, MD in aerospace work. He was a life-time member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
George enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, square dancing, photography and do-it-yourself hobbies. He was a member of the 2 x 4s Square Dance Club in Newark, DE for many years and formed a club at Jenner's Pond. He enjoyed set building with the Chapel Street Players of Newark and radio-controlled model sail boating at Jenner's Pond. George was a member of the "Freshman Class" at Jenner's Pond.
George married Jean Marie Tripp on June 24, 1951 in Baltimore and raised 4 children: Linda N. Larkin (deceased) and husband Dr. Michael Larkin, Carol Scott and husband Hester (deceased), all of Wilmington, Nancy Watrud and husband Rev. Jim Watrud of Long Island, and David Taylor and wife Lauri of Bel Air, MD. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Dan Nicholson and wife Kristin of West Chester, Andrew and Kaitlin Watrud of Long Island, Morgan and Alexandra Taylor of Bel Air, MD, Amy Smaciak of Gaston, SC, and Jon Larkin of New York City; and 2 great grandchildren, Seth and Luke Crawford of DE.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Neighborhood Hospice and Jenner's Pond for George's wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday April 13, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE with a reception to follow.
