Glenys Frances Bethel Maia, age 89, of Oxford, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by her daughters.
Glenys was born in Albany, MO, on December 12, 1922, to Eugene and Goldie Bethel. She graduated high school and attended two years of business college. After her husband retired from the Navy, the family settled in Newark, DE, where Glenys lived for over 40 years until her move to a nursing home in Pennsylvania in July 2009. Her husband passed away in 1987.
Glenys was a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her children. Although she suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, nothing destroyed the love and protectiveness she felt for her children. She was a quiet, but witty person with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Glenys was predeceased by her siblings, Wayne Bethel, Maxine Allman, J.T. Bethel, Jewell Bethel, Orpha Cameron, and Jeanne Leech. She is survived by her three children, Joe Maia of Laurel, MD, Louise Maia of Newark, DE, and Vicki Thompson (Keith) of Middletown, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
