Bradley

Helen Audrey Bradley, age 91, of Wilmington, DE died peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at her daughter's residence with her daughter and grandchildren by her side.

Born in Wilmington, DE Audrey was the oldest of five children born to William A. Rowan and Effie J. Rementer Rowan. A bright student, Audrey was a graduate of Christ Our King School and P. S. duPont High School. She then graduated as a registered nurse from St. Francis Hospital, where she met her husband, Paul A. Bradley, to whom she was married for 35 years.

After working as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Audrey was a visiting nurse for many years, caring with patients with skill and compassion. In her 40's, Audrey went back to school to West Chester University to become certified as a school nurse. She was the school nurse at West Park Elementary School and then was the first school nurse at Wilmer E. Shue School in the old Newark School District, a position from which she retired after about 20 years.

In her retirement, Audrey enjoyed being very involved in her daughter's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's lives, knitting, cross stitching, working in her yard and traveling with friends. She especially enjoyed spending the summer and fall months at her beach house in Cape May, New Jersey, a place she treasured.

Audrey was an interesting and strong person, valued by many for her tenacious spirit and good friendship and beloved by her family for her unfailing love and support. She will be missed dearly.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Patricia B. Barron of Wilmington, DE; her grandson, Matthew D. Barron and his wife Mary, son Bradley and daughter Madelyn of Belcamp, Maryland and her granddaughter, Catherine B. Read and her husband William and daughters Maura and Claire of Wilmington, Delaware.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Gardens at White Chapel in Newark, Delaware where Audrey resided since 2007 with great independence, as well as the staff of Seasons Hospice for the care and kindnesses they provided for Audrey.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, on Wednesday, June 27, from 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Beloved R.C. Church, 907 Milltown Rd., with interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
