Helen Rosalie Abramowicz

Age 86, of Petersburg, WV, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2013. She died peacefully in the presence of loved ones, including her cat, Sassy. She was born on November 22, 1926 in Poland, the daughter of the late Czeslaw "Jesse" Kolakowski and Helena (Olkowski) Kolakowski.
Helen was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved gardening, woodworking, sewing, crocheting, song writing and cooking Polish and American foods, especially for holiday gatherings with family. She was a member of the Seven Sisters Club. She was a telephone operator for Diamond State Telephone Co. in Wilmington, DE, receiving many commendations over the years. She loved the opportunity to help people through her work. Helen was born in Dabrowka, Makow, Poland in 1926, crossing the Atlantic with family at the tender age of 2 to homestead in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. At the age of 8 her family moved to Wilmington, DE. Helen later went to Middletown High School. She settled in Delaware, eventually moving to Petersburg, WV to reside with her daughter Cindy in 2010. She will be sadly missed by all the people she has loved and who have loved her in return. She will always remain in our hearts.
Ms. Abramowicz is survived by: 3 daughters, Christine Endres of Maysville, WV, Linda Abramowicz-Reed and husband, George, of Newtown, CT and Cindy (Abramowicz) Hubschmitt of Petersburg; 3 sons, Edward Korwek of Bear, DE, Gary Abramowicz and wife, Judy, of Allentown, PA, and James Abramowicz of Perryville, MD; 1 sister, Jean Willis of Pike Creek, DE; 1 brother, Thomas Kolakowski and wife, Dolores, of Clayton, DE; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many other people whose hearts she touched.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by: 1 brother, Theodore Kolakowski; 3 sisters, Sophie Suchocki, Irene Lesczynsky and Tessie Glowiak.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 6-7 PM at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Pastor Rick Bergdoll will officiate a memorial service at 7 PM. There will be a memorial service in Wilmington, DE at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grant Memorial Hospice, 100 Hospital Drive, Ste. 2, Petersburg, WV 26847.
