Irene Sylvia Zippe Shinn Dearie

Irene (Skip) Shinn Dearie passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Friday March 15, 2013. Irene was born in 1918 in Wilmington to Victor G. and Miriam Donoho Bullen (Zippe) Pordham.

Irene graduated from James H. Groves High School and studied Geology, Anthropology and History at the University of Delaware. After 31 years service with the DuPont Co., she retired. She was a member of the DuPont Country Club, Chesapeake Commodores Club, Outcast Yacht Club, Wellwood Yacht Club, Delaware Saengerbund, Brandywine YMCA and Senior Center Newark. She also studied art under Edward Loper, Jr.

She most recently made her home at Emeritus at White Chapel, Newark.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Albert R. Shinn, her second husband, William R. Dearie, and by her son, Richard E. Shinn.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene Shinn Rice of Newark and Georgianna Shinn Braithwaite of Levittown, New York, 5 grandsons, 4 great-grandsons and 4 great-granddaughters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Monday, March 25, at 11 am at the Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin with memorial service following at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Head of Christiana Cemetery, Newark, DE.

Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Irene to: Friends of New Castle County Mounted Police Unit, P.O. Box 403, Hockessin, DE, 19707.
