Jean Wessel Wagner Obituary
Jean Wessel Wagner of Dover passed away Friday December 21, 2012. She was 85.

Jean Wagner was born December 12, 1927 in Wyoming, Delaware to the late John T. Wessel and Barbara Altwater Wessel. She grew up in Dover graduating from Dover High School as a qualified secretary.

Her career started with the Family Court, Kent County, then legislative Hall, Dover. When she was then employed as a secretary at Dover Air Force Base and transferred to Chateauroux Air Station, France working for War Plans, USAF. While at Chateauroux Air Station playing golf at their golf course, she shattered the existing record for women by 11 strokes. She shot a 72 which was 2 under par with 5 one putt holes. They doubted that her record would ever be bettered. From Chateauroux she transferred to the USAF in Wiesbaden, Germany and held various secretarial positions. Returning to the United States in 1968 she was a personal secretary to the Deputy Surgeon General of the USAF at the Pentagon, holding several positions in various departments in Washington, DC until she retired in 1987.

Jean loved playing golf and received many awards and trophies from Washington County Clubs and Maple Dale. She also loved playing duplicate bridge at Maple Dale and Wild Quail Country Clubs and will be missed by many friends and family.

She is survived by her sister, Betty W. Willis and her husband William; cousins, William A. Schaefer, Sr. William A. Schaefer, Jr. and his wife Lynn, Gayle Schaefer Lorenz and her husband Richard.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
