Joan E. Thorpe
Age 67 of New Castle, DE, passed away with her daughter and granddaughter by her side on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Regal Heights Nursing Home, where she resided for the last three years.
She was born on July 29, 1945, the only child of Ella and Robert Phillips. She was a strong woman who battled lung disease a good part of her life prior to becoming ill. Joan worked as a medical transcriptionist for Cardiology Consultants for 23 years until retiring in 2006. She found great joy working and being surrounded by her co-workers and friends. After retiring, Joan spent her time at the M.O.T. Senior Center where she made several beloved friends who she held dear to heart.
Anyone knowing Joan knew her hair and nails were always perfect and she enjoyed eating out at restaurants. Joan's greatest pleasure was shopping, it didn't matter who it was for or if it fit, as long as she was shopping.
She was a very loving, supportive, mother and grandmother, who didn't have much but gave her all.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, Robert in 1967, followed by her mother, Ella in 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly M. Thorpe and her granddaughter, Tori A. Thorpe from Middletown, DE; her son Robert M. Thorpe "Michael", and his significant other Kari. L. Sullivan and her grandchildren, Mikey and Madison Thorpe from Bear, DE.
Joan's family would like to thank the staff at Regal Heights for providing her comfort and joy during her stay with them.
A funeral service will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road Pike Creek on Wednesday, November 14th, at 11am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm.
