John A. Blair Sr.

John A. Blair Sr., renowned Child Safety Expert, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 with his family by his side. Born in Birmingham, AL, John was the youngest of eight children born to Robert S. Blair and May Aitken Blair. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and received a special appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. He opted instead to attend the University of Auburn, graduating second in his chemical engineering class. He was accepted in the TAU BETA PI and PI LAMDA UPSILON home and societies.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and May Blair; and a granddaughter, Angela Blair. He is survived by his wife Irene H. Blair and 4 children: John A. Blair Jr., Steven S. Blair, Judith A. Suiter (Doug), and Robert S. Blair (Irene). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Brandon Blair, John Blair III, Jeremy Johns (Jessica), Brett Johns (Ashley), Daniel Blair (Justine), Robert Blair III, Joshua Blair and Jessica Blair; and 6 adorable great-grandchildren, Micah Blair, Lily May Blair, Noah and Haley Johns and Gabriel and Alayna Johns. Grandpa Blair was extremely witty and was very fond of teasing his grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 10am-11am followed by a service at 11am. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to John's Children Fund, 535 Deer Run, Bear, DE 19701.
