Age 75, of Greenville, ME and Wilmington, DE died after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME, surrounded by his family. He was born August 14, 1937 in Wilmington, DE, a son of John and Mary (Orr) Mullins, Sr.

John was a loving husband and father whose greatest pride and accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. John was a 1955 graduate of Salesianum High School, Wilmington, DE and Lincoln Technical Institute, Newark NJ.
He was owner of Brandywine Transmission Service in Wilmington, DE, and Brandywine Transmission Automotive Center, a multi-use automotive facility. He wore many hats in the profession that he loved, serving on the Advisory Board of Lincoln Technical Institute as well as the New Castle County Economic Development Corp. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Automotive Service Association (ASA), where he had the opportunity to represent ASA in Japan observing Inspection and Maintenance and Educational and Technical programs sponsored by the Japanese Automobile Service Promotion Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National Institute for Automobile Service Excellence (NIASE), and was representative for the independent segment at the NAPA Dealer Trainer Committee in 1988. He served as member of the Advisory Council for the Small Business Administration, Region III, Philadelphia and was Delaware Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business where he was proud to tell of meeting then President Bill Clinton.
In 1985 he was selected Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Delaware and was inducted into the New Castle County Vocational Technical School Hall of Fame and Lincoln Technical Institute Graduate Hall of Fame of which he was very proud of both honors.
He was active in his community and helped found the St. Edmond's Academy Father's Association, the Salesianum Fathers' Association, and the Salesianum Invitational Basketball Tournament.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bernice Pettoruto Mullins; sons, Brian (Cathy) of Hudson, OH, Mark (Olga), John, III, Stephen (Amy) and daughter, Theresa Shorey (Les), of Wilmington, DE; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Przywara and Mary K. Winner, of Wilmington, DE; and one brother, Michael of Walkill, NY.
A Mass of Remembrance was held November 10th, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Greenville, ME. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 4701 Weldin Rd in Wilmington, where friends may call one hour before the time of the service.
