1974 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
John M. Scharp Obituary
John M. Scharp

AGE: 40 • Hockessin

John M. Scharp, 40 of Hockessin, DE lost his courageous battle to cancer and peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Born in Wilmington on January 7, 1974, John was a graduate of Concord High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from University of Delaware where he was a member of Sigma Nu Alumni. He earned his Master's Degree from Goldey Beacom College. He was a proud Geico Insurance Agent and operated his independent firm on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington. John was active with USO Delaware and served on the Advisory Council. He was also a member of St. John the Beloved Parish.

John will be dearly missed by his wife of 7 years, Anne V. (McDonald) Scharp; his children, Chloe, Noah, Samuel and John Scharp; his mother, Janice (Minutola) Nippes and her husband, Dr. Richard Nippes; his brothers, Chuck Scharp (Erin), Jim Scharp (Laura); his sister, Jennifer Shute (Jason); his step sisters, Kym Nippes (Andy Lewis) and Holly Martinez; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Scharp.

John was the best father and his proudest accomplishment was his four children whom he loved with all his heart. If he wasn't spending time with them he would be boating, fishing & crabbing or metal detecting. His favorite thing was time spent during the summer in Fenwick Island on Pine Street. This was his favorite place on earth, referencing it in his own words as "God's World." There is no doubt that he is now on the Pine Street in heaven hanging with his dad.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, April 21 from 4:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Tuesday, April 22 at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to USO Delaware, 500 Purple Heart Way, Dover AFB, DE 19902 (www.uso.org/donatedelaware/).
