Joseph D. Lane, age 79, of Bear, DE, formerly of Onancock, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014. While surrounded by his devoted and loving family, he was ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior and welcomed with the words "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Joe was a beloved son of Dilworth and Elizabeth Lane. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Joe served in the Coast Guard for 24 years, retiring as a Master Chief Boatswain Mate E-9. He was a true Christian man, leaving behind a legacy of love of family, friends, and serving and loving our Heavenly Father. Joe was a very gifted, talented, fun loving, and humble man. He was compassionate and thoughtful, always supportive of others.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Diane Lane; children: Teresa Oravitz (Gerald Jr.), David Lane Jr. (Liz), Jenny Tassone (Scott), David Francis; Grandchildren: Caitlin, Anthony, Brittani, and Amanda; son-in-law, Stephen Blatt; loving and supportive brothers and sisters; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, loving friends, and devoted and treasured dog, Nina. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Blatt.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of this wonderful man on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 10-11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to Faithful Friends, 3 Germay Dr. Suite 4, Wilmington, DE 19804 or the American Legion, 3 E. Jackson Ave., New Castle, DE 19720.
