Joseph Robert McGovern, Sr. passed away peacefully on October 21, 2013 at his home in Yorklyn, Delaware, the same home where he was born 88 years ago.

Bob worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad (later Amtrak) for 42 years. He also served in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Baltimore where he saw combat in the Pacific.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Marie, and his sons, Preston, of New York City and Joseph Robert, Jr. and his wife (Linda) of Nottingham, Pennsylvania.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 24 from 5-7 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bob at St. Mary of Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 on Friday, October 25 at 10 am. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, North Ashland-Clinton School Road, Ashland, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Bob's memory to St. Mary of Assumption Church at the above address or Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Rd., Suite 102 Newark, DE 19702.
