Kathleen L. Nelson

Kathleen (Little) Nelson, 92, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Millcroft in Newark, DE.

Born April 7, 1920 in Newark, she was the daughter of the late T. Harold and Emilie (Wilson) Little and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leonard Nelson.

She graduated from Newark High School in 1938 and attended the University of Delaware, majoring in elementary education. Kathleen was devoted to her family, church and the teaching of children. She was a 75-year member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Newark. Through the years at the church she was involved in teaching, singing in the church choir, playing the organ from ages 14 to 21, and participating in a variety of other church-related activities and committees.

Under the influence of her aunt, Lora H. Little, Kathleen became a dedicated teacher and loved teaching school. She taught in the Stanton Elementary School for 6 years and then developed, taught and became director of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Preschool from 1966 to 2002. She retired and was honored at the age of 82, after 36 years of service.

Kathleen was well-loved by her family. Surviving are her children, Ronald and his wife, Carole, of Georgetown, NY; Dennis and his wife, Diana, of Millsboro, DE; Lois Clark and her husband, Jim, of Mechanicsburg, PA; Donna Samuels and her husband, Tom, of West Grove, PA; a sister, Dorothy Godwin, of Wilmington, DE; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30 from 6 to 8 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE and at the Ebenezer Church from 10 to 11 am, prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 1, at 11 am at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE with a light luncheon following at the church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church Preschool, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711.
