Leigh Coleman Dunlap Ivison

AGE: 60 • Landenberg, PA

On Sunday, August 10, 2014, Leigh Coleman Dunlap Ivison's inspiring life came to a beautiful and peaceful end in the loving embrace of her husband and their two sons.

Born to the late Frances Gebhart Dunlap and the late Leighton Coleman Dunlap Jr., Leigh grew up in New Castle, Delaware. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1972 and the University of Delaware in 1976. She was a competitive swimmer representing the U of D and Wilmington Aquatic Club. She was, at one time, the Delaware state champion in the 500 freestyle.

Leigh worked for The DuPont Company's Medical Products Department and then later Sterling Diagnostics in Glasgow, DE. She retired in 1999.

Leigh loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and spending her summers on Martha's Vineyard where she played tennis and enjoyed playing hours of cards on the beach with dear friends. Leigh cherished her time with her family, and she enjoyed spending time with her dear friends at home in Pennsylvania. She was a lover of life and inspired all who knew her during her four year battle with pancreatic cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Sterling H. (Skip) Ivison, sons William Kent Ivison and Andrew Coleman Ivison, her sister Kaye Dunlap Wilder and husband George, her sister-in-law Kate Meleney and husband Ted and her niece Eliza Fowle Ballin.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, 211 South Broad Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
