Linda P. "Dee"

Doughten

Age 64, of Selbyville, DE, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, after courageously fighting cancer for 6½ years. Dee was born in Wilmington to the late Joseph and Irene (Duarte) Haney.

Dee graduated from Claymont H.S. in 1964 where she excelled in basketball and had worked as a school bus driver for 17 years in New Castle County and more recently as a bartender and hostess in Ocean City. She enjoyed a variety of activities including coaching softball at Canal Little League, shopping, reading and her beloved SLOTS! She was also, in recent years, a proud member of The Cha-Cha Girls, her friends since high school.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Merle O. Doughten Sr.; her son Merle O. Doughten Jr. (Andrea); her daughter Andi Doughten and 3 grandchildren, Amanda, Anthony and Brian. Dee is also survived by her 5 siblings Kathy Boyce, Terri Talley (Bert), Joanne McDonald (Dave), Tom Long (Colleen), Joseph Haney (Karen), by her aunt and uncle Louise and Al D'Onofrio, and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Doughten Alberts, in 2007.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday December 7 at 5 pm at HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME, 19 South Main Street in Selbyville where friends may call 3 to 5 pm.

Her family is extremely grateful to the people at the Tunnel Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, they would prefer that you please send donations to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Condolences may be
