Madeline Thomas Reese "Joan"
The Guest Book is expired.
M. Joan Reese, age 80, left this world on Sunday, January 6, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was reunited with her beloved husband Joe, and her son, Kenny.
Joan was born on in Glenolden, PA, one of four children born to the late Emid and Margaret (Braden) Thomas. She attended schools in Wilmington, DE and in later years, studied to be a cosmetologist. She was a beautician for former McCrery Memorial Funeral Homes. Joan also operated a beauty salon at Ingleside Retirement Homes, which brought great joy to her heart. The last job she had before her retirement was with American Greeting Cards.
A devout Catholic, Joan was a member of Christ our King RC Church in Wilmington, DE when she met the love of her life, Joe Reese. They were married at Christ our King and would later worship at both Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Fatima parishes in Wilmington, DE. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her five children. Throughout the years, there wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for them or their children, even if it meant great sacrifice on her part. Her children gave her the best surprise 80th birthday party this past November. It was a real tribute to Joan.
Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Keneally; her husband Joseph A. Reese Jr. in 2005 and her son Kenneth M. Reese, in 2008. She was also predeceased by her faithful canine companion, Casey who died December 3, 2012. Mrs. Reese will be dearly missed by her daughters, Bonnie Taddeo, Terry Reese, Rebecca Reese; her son, Joseph T. Reese; granddaughter Amanda White, whom she raised; her remaining 3 grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren and by her 2 brothers, James and Emid "Tommy" Thomas.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Delaware Hospice for the kindness, care and compassion given to Joan during her final days. Joan will be missed by her many friends and extended family.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 14, at the MCCERYY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., (at Duncan Rd.) Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 15 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
