Mrs. Mary E. Fortunato, age 95 of Greenville, DE and Margate, NJ, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, May 29, 2014.

Mary was born in Wilmington, DE on July 2, 1918, daughter of the late Angelo and Rose Marie (Rapuano) Cicione. She was an endlessly loving wife and homemaker, also serving over 30 years as Vice President of Joseph S. Fortunato, Inc., which was successfully formed, owned, and operated by her husband. Mary possessed a deep and devout faith. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, having been a past President of the parish's BVM sodality and serving as a consultant for several years, as well as having been President of its Holy Name Society Ladies Auxiliary. Mary was an avid fan of University of Delaware Football and found joy in traveling, notably treasuring time spent at her home in Margate, NJ.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Joseph S. Fortunato; granddaughter, Maria Arcaro; and siblings, Sen. Anthony J. Cicione, Angelo J. Cicione, Elizabeth Cicione, Louise Willoughby, and Dorothy Grier. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth G. Arcaro (Charles); grandchildren, Rosemarie Arcaro-Kasuba (Peter), and twins Carla Papa (Joseph) and Carl Arcaro (Amber); and great-grandchildren, Erica Papa, Anthony Papa, Giana Papa, Mia Papa, Giuliano Arcaro, and Angelo Papa.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to Drs. Maria Lazar, Anthony Furey, and James Fierro, as well as the nurses, aides, and staff of St. Francis Home Care, for their exemplary and compassionate care of Mary. Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to Dominic DeFino for his many contributions to Mary's care and Amber Gum for her tireless devotion and compassion as caretaker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Monday, June 2 at 12 noon. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, on Monday morning, prior to mass, from 10-11:30am.

In and effort to lend aid and support to Women with Lupus and Rheumatic Diseases, memorial contributions may be made to the Barbara Volcker Center, c/o Hospital for Special Surgery, 535 E. 70th St., New York, NY 10021. Donations may also be made in Mary's memory to the Make a Wish Foundation, 4742 N. 24th St., Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
