Quinta Griffin, age 95, of Wilmington, DE died at home on September 30, 2013. She was born
[Martha] Quinta Iacampo in 1918, the fifth daughter of the late Lena (nee Peters) and
Michaelangelo Iacampo. She graduated from Simon Gratz High School and Pierce Business School. She worked as a legal secretary in Philadelphia until marrying Samuel E. C. Griffin in 1943. The couple resided in Cleveland, Ohio for 10 years before moving to Wilmington DE. They were happily married for 64 years.
A member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish ever since its beginning in 1955, Quinta was very active in the parish in a variety of roles: religious education teacher, lay trustee, parish council member and an outreach office coordinator. Devoted to her husband and children, Quinta was active in the parent organizations of their schools and in 1959 was among the founding parents of Saint Edmond's Academy. In addition, Quinta was a long-time member of the Back Gate Garden Club and the Embroiderers' Guild of America. She received recognition for several of her needlework pieces. Quinta was also a gracious hostess and loved entertaining her many friends.
Quinta was predeceased by her parents, husband, and four older sisters. She is survived by her children, Gail Battles of Connecticut, Sam (Kathy) Griffin of Dover, Delaware, and Mary Griffin of Wilmington, as well as by a son-in-law, David Wang and by seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by younger sister, Alba (nee Iacampo) Hyk of Philadelphia, and several nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers who have been so dedicated to Quinta over the past five years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Saturday, October 5, at 10:00 AM. Friends may call at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, on Friday from 6-8 PM and at IHM Church, Saturday from 9 - 10 AM. Interment will follow the mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, or Immaculate Heart of Mary Outreach, at the above church address.
