Ralph W. Bayrer, age 93, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by his family.
Ralph graduated from William Hall High School in West Hartford, CT in 1936 and the University of New Hampshire in 1940 where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Ralph worked for the DuPont Company for many years. After nine years as the Repauno Plant Manager he retired in 1981. Ralph was very involved in community. He was the Disaster Committee Chairman and Chapter President of the Red Cross, a member of the United Way, a Rotarian, a Boys Club leader, deacon at Concord Presbyterian Church, and a member of the DuPont Country Club. In addition to work, Ralph enjoyed traveling, photography, fishing, and watching sports, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Ralph was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Barbara in 2005. He is survived by his 3 children, Lillian Gray of Wilmington, DE, Marilyn Closson of Poland Spring, ME, and Thomas Bayrer of Roanoke, VA; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 25th from 4-6pm at the McCRERY & HARRA Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202, S. of Silverside Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19803. A memorial service will be held the following day at 11 am at Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19803 with a reception to follow the service. Interment will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Ralph's name to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810 or Concord Presbyterian Church.
