Robert D. Jackson Jr. Obituary

Robert D. Jackson, Jr., age 63, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 28, 2013 after a courageous battle with heart disease.

He was born in Wilmington in 1949 to Robert D. Jackson, Sr. and Willie Mae (Lewis) Jackson. He lived most of his life in Delaware where he graduated from Howard High School in 1969. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington State where he developed a love of cooking and baking. He later went on to work closely with horses for several years which allowed him to travel to different parts of the United States. When he settled back in Wilmington, he became employed by VPI Mirrex where he worked his way up to becoming a machine operator during his 18 years of employment with them.

"Big Bob" was an accomplished bowler with several 300 games to his credit. He was also an avid boater, talented archer and bass fisherman, winning several competitions in the various clubs in which he was a member. He continued his love of horses and passed it along to his daughter, Shelby, helping her to become a successful equestrian throughout her childhood. He was a man who loved his family and his church and will be best remembered for his eagerness to help others.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly and his devoted daughter, Shelby. He is also survived by his daughter, Lyndsey; his sons, Roger, Alex and Chris; his grandchildren, Corey, Lexi and Vinnie; his father, Robert Jackson, Sr.; four brothers and three sisters. He was predeceased by his mother.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 3, 2013 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear. A service to celebrate his life will begin at noon. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 11 Independence Way, Newark, DE 19713.
