Robert Hunt Whitten, 77 of Newark, DE, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012.
Born on August 23, 1934, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Natalie Whitten. He graduated from The Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA in 1955. He also studied business at Goldey-Beacom College and was a member of the Delaware National Guard. Bob had a photography business in Wilmington. He specialized in commercial, portrait, family and wedding photography. Bob introduced informal outdoor photography to the Mid-Atlantic area. His retirement interests included sailing and traveling. He attended classes at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and was a member of Newark Computer Club. He was a friend to many.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ellen, who loves and misses him deeply. He is also survived by a daughter, Vera Palmatary and husband, Bo; Griffin and Kim Cornish; Barry Cornish; and three granddaughters. He is also survived by Nancy Whitten. In addition, Bob is survived by a daughter, Barbara Debnam and husband, Christopher; two granddaughters, Ashley and Morgan; and sister, Joan Rohn and children, Kirk Rohn and Andrea Brown. Bob is also survived by Carl Opderbeck, Erik and Cindy Opderbeck; and grandsons, Kyle and Cole.
He was predeceased by Laure W. Whitten.
Friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, July 23 at 5:30 pm, with funeral services beginning at 6:30 pm.
