Rosalie A. Iannone

Age 87, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Rosalie was born to Ernest and Julia Poppiti in Wilmington, Delaware.
Rosalie grew up in a devoted Catholic family and was secretary to Fr. Tucker at St. Anthony of Padua before marrying her husband, Dave. Rosalie volunteered at St. Catherine of Siena Parish from its beginning, helping prepare lunches for the sisters at the school, serving as a sacristan in the church and as a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
She volunteered for many years delivering meals to the elderly through the Meals on Wheels program. She was a wonderful, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Rosalie attended numerous softball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and basketball games, as well as cheerleading competitions and tennis matches of her 12 grandchildren. Rosalie enjoyed the beach, bowling, gardening, and sewing, and most of all activities and holidays with her family. She attended daily Mass until her illness.
Rosalie is survived by her husband of 64 years, David M. Iannone, Jr. of Wilmington. She is also survived by three of their four children, Cookie (Rosalie) Ruane (John) of Middletown and Michele Kerrigan Mowbray (Robert) and David M. Iannone, III (Chris) of Wilmington, her grandchildren, Leigh Plomchok (Steve) of Abington, Maryland, Timothy Ruane, USN (Heather) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Sarah Ruane of Middletown, Mary Catherine Ruane of San Antonio, Texas, David M. Iannone, IV (Brooke) of Atlanta, Georgia, Kristie Manley (William), Lynn Kelly (Gene), Janine Gravino (Dante), Michele Kerrigan, and Daniel Kerrigan, Jr., all of Wilmington, and Amanda Mowbray and Stacey Gretka (Nick) of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Brianna Iannone, Mariah and Candyce Testa, Emma and Addy Manley, Jacob and Alyssa Kelly, Rachel and Noah Gretka, Steven and John Jackson Plomchok, Isabelle and Dominic Ruane, and Chad and Anthony Thornton. She is also survived by her brother, Anthony Poppiti and son-in-law, Joseph LeConte. She is predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Marie LeConte, son-in-law, Daniel Kerrigan, granddaughter, Jennifer Testa, brother, Gennaro Poppiti, and sister, Ann Musacchio. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her beauty on the outside was equally matched by the depth of her kindness and her loving heart.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice, especially Marquist, Kerline, and Amy for the wonderful nursing care given to Rosalie. Family and friends are invited to visit at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, on Wednesday, October 23 from 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington on Thursday, October 24 at 11 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, 475 E.
