Rosemary Sannini Crawford

Rosemary Sannini Crawford, age 59, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at her home in Wilmington, Delaware, following a prolonged struggle with pancreatic cancer.

It would be difficult to summarize all of Rosemary's passions and accomplishments for she was a remarkable woman. To begin with, she was the most dedicated of teachers, serving Tatnall School students for over 30 years as an English teacher and as department chair since 2007. She loved her students dearly and never hesitated to give her time and talents with them. She also had a love of theater and directed numerous shows over her years at Tatnall.

Rosemary had a keen and curious mind, and she fostered that same curiosity in her students, friends and family. She was an insatiable reader, pursuing diverse topics ranging from Emily Dickinson's poetry to Einstein's theories of physics to feminist theology. She loved travel, particularly to Italy, and she shared this love with her family and students.

Most importantly, she loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. In all of her relationships, she pushed every one of us to pursue our dreams and let our passions guide our lives.

Rosemary was born on June 17, 1953, and grew up in Hockessin, Delaware. She graduated from Padua Academy in 1971 and earned bachelor and master degrees from the University of Delaware. She was a National Board Certified Teacher, earned grants from the CBE and NEA, and studied Italian language in Siena, Italy.

Rosemary is survived by her husband Charles; sons Andrew and Daniel; parents Edmond and Mary Sannini; brother Edmond and his wife, Coni Frezzo; nieces Emily and Claire; and cousins Lawrence, Margaret, and Louise Bue, Patricia Nerwinski, Albert Sannini, Joanne Chiarlanza, Jane Saffici, and Sandra Vannello.

The family wishes to extend deepest appreciation to the doctors and nurses of Johns Hopkins University Hospital, the nurses and aides of Delaware Hospice, the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales at Salesianum School, and the entire Tatnall School community.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, January 25th beginning at 6 to 8:30 pm at The Tatnall School, 1501 Barley Mill Road, Wilmington, Delaware (302-998-2292). A Mass of Christian Burial will also be held at the Laird Performing Arts Center at The Tatnall School on Saturday morning, January 26 at 11 am. An additional one-hour viewing will precede Saturday's mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Tatnall School's scholarship fund in Rosemary's name.
