On Monday, November 12, 2012, Vincent Spadea peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family, at St. Francis Hospital, in the Compassionate Care Hospice Wing. Vince was born in Gasperina, Italy, on June 22, 1931, and immigrated to the United States, with his parents Gregorio and Maria Assunta (Voci).
Vince grew up in South Philadelphia, with his siblings Marian and Anthony, who preceded him in death, and his youngest sister Elizabeth.
Vince served in the United States Army 129 Medical Detachment during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Vince spent the next 40 years as a hairdresser. In addition to owning his own salon, Bon-Sher in the 1960's, Vince worked at several of the top salons in Philadelphia and Wilmington, including his Brother Tony's salon, Continental.
Vince is survived by his children, Wendy Mical (Carl Witmer), Gregory Spadea (Donna) and Christopher Spadea, and seven grandchildren Samantha, Ally, Alexis, Alexander, Emma, Kate, and Jennifer. Vince is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Dugan, his brother-in-law Frank Schepis, and nine nieces and nephews.
To celebrate and share in the memories of our father, we will be holding a memorial luncheon on Saturday, November 17, at Kid Shelleens at 14th and Scott Streets, in Wilmington, Delaware, from 1-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a small donation to The Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation by visiting http://www.cchfoundation.net/ or contacting them at 302-368-8944.
