Wayne H. Holmquist

Wayne H. Holmquist, 75, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2013 in The Villages, Florida. Wayne was born on March 20, 1938 in Elkton, MD to the late Herman L. and Frances Holmquist. Wayne was a 1957 graduate of Conrad High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later retired from the Newark Police Department after 34 years of service. Wayne was an avid runner and was a member of the Pike Creek Running Club where he enjoyed competing in numerous races and meticulously logged every mile he had run. He was also a die-hard Blue Hens football fan and took great pleasure in attending their games both home and away.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Holmquist; daughters, Amy Holmquist of Newark and Ann Marie Critchley of Virginia; step-children, Steven Herzig, Karen Kunda and her husband Adam of Earleville, MD; grandchildren, Ashley Calder and Ryan Hannah; great-grandchildren, Carli Calder and Hailey Lewis; siblings, Helen Davis of Elkton, Jill Eastep of Wilmington, Hannah Purcell-Long of Wilmington, Len Holmquist and his wife Rose Marie of New Castle, Kristine Torrance and her husband Arlin Rupard of Wilmington, Patricia Benson of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Jon Holmquist.

A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at 4PM at the Newark Country Club, 300 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Looking forward to sharing this day with Wayne's family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Hospice at The Villages Hospice House, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162.
