William R. Moffa
William Remo Moffa, 63, of Newark, died peacefully at home on February 8, 2013. He was born on May 7, 1949 and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1967. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. He served his country proudly, earning several field promotions and a Navy Commendation Medal for heroism.
Bill was a letter carrier for years before he moved onto his favorite profession, owner of the Charcoal House Restaurant in Wilmington. He had a tremendous work ethic and had a devoted clientele who visited daily for good food and great conversation. When he closed the store, the community truly felt the loss.
Bill was diagnosed with liver cancer in September and spent several months battling the disease. He was truly grateful to all of those who came by to visit with and to encourage him. He always enjoyed a good story and the people who came by to visit really brightened his day.
It was a true blessing to have friends there to help the family with getting him to treatments and to assist with his care as the disease progressed. Bill's family would like to express deep gratitude to his devoted friends, several of whom were there during his final moments.
Bill is survived by Claire, his wife of 42 years. He is also survived by his son, William Moffa, Jr. and his fiancée Kimberly, as well as his daughter, Jenifer Pugliese and her husband, Alex. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Katie and Anthony and his great-granddaughter, Aubree. He was also survived by five sisters and one brother.
Bill was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be truly missed. His services will be private, per his request.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made in his memory to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702-B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805 or
, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
