Wallace L. Campbell, 85, died at Christiana Hospital on Sunday June 9, 2013. Wally was born in Philadelphia in 1927 to Theodore L. and Janet Wallace Campbell.
After graduating from Lansdowne High School and attending one year of college, he spent time in the US Army in the States as well as the Philippine Islands. In 1950 he received a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was subsequently employed by Atlas Powder Company in Pennsylvania doing plant engineering. In 1951 he married Jeanne M. Stamm and in that same year was transferred to the Bay Area of California. After 9 years, he was transferred to Joplin, MO, as plant engineer. After 10 years in Missouri, he was again transferred in 1970 to Wilmington, DE, to the Central Engineering Department, as the company evolved from Atlas to ICI to Astra Zeneca. Wally retired in 1989 after 39 years of service. His retirement was spent enjoying several hobbies, including landscape painting (water colors and oil), woodworking, gardening and traveling. He was also active in his local civic association.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne, his daughter Dianne (Walter) Kuchlak, daughter Christine (Perry) Salisbury, son Mark S. Campbell, MD (Cindy), and 5 grandchildren, Aimee, Andrew, Andrea, Rebekah and Emily; and 3 great grandchildren, Ian, Tyler and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scott Campbell.
