James K. Lamberton, Jr., 95, of Seaford passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Nanticoke Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Lamberton was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1919, a son of James and Ada (Dover) Lamberton. He attended and graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens, NY in 1936. After graduation, he worked in various positions in the New York City area including a short time as a management trainee in a bank. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps-Air Force during WW II as a code clerk both in London and elsewhere in Europe, and was discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. He then resumed his career in the banking industry, specializing in bank operations especially computer systems and consumer credit cards at a senior level with banks on Long Island, NY, and in New Jersey, until he retired in 1985. He attended Hofstra College and received a banking management certificate from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in 1952. Mr. Lamberton also was active in church work, serving on the boards of several congregations wherever he lived. A lifelong photographer, his pictures are a vital part of his family's history. He remained loyal to two New York pro teams, the Mets and the Jets and was also an avid golfer, who continued to play until he was over 90.
Mr. Lamberton was married to Alma Farr of Queens Village, NY for almost 65 years, prior to her death in 2007. He is survived by his son, Roy and his wife Kathryn Lamberton of Seaford; 4 grandsons, Edward Lamberton and his wife Tabitha in Gaithersburg, MD, David Lamberton and his wife Catherine in Winsett, NC, Andrew Lamberton and his wife Katherine in Burlington, NC and Alex Lamberton of Albany, NY, along with 3 great grandsons. Another son, Thomas, preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Mt. Olivet UMC in Seaford, Saturday, March 29th at 10 AM. He will join his wife Alma in the Mt. Olivet Prayer Garden at a later date. Arrangements by the Cranston Funeral Home.
