Robert Anthony Harkins, Jr.

Age 71, passed away on March 28, 2014. Robert was born in Wilmington on June 10, 1942.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked for the Electric Hose & Rubber Company. Robert was a passionate outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and car rides. He was kind and outgoing, loving all people and finding joy in making others smile with his unique sense of humor.

Robert is survived by his mother, Marie (Schneider) Harkins; siblings, Michael, Thomas, Stephen and his wife Sharren, Vincent and his wife Cindy, Marie "Bonnie", and Susan Wilkins; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert A. Harkins, Sr.; brother, Joseph; and sister, Jeanne.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital and Connections Community Support Programs, Inc. (CSP) for their attentive and compassionate care of Robert. Special gratitude is extended to Jose Hernandez and staff at Blackbird Landing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th and Bancroft in Wilmington, on Wednesday morning, April 2 at 11am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday morning, prior to mass, from 9:30-10:45am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Support Programs Inc., 500 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
