Donald Dean Lloyd passed away peacefully in the Compassionate Care Hospice unit at St. Francis Hospital on March 23, 2014. He was born to the late Emlen and Mildred Lloyd on July 12, 1933 in Wilmington, DE.
Donald grew up in Gwinhurst and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1950 where he played football and basketball. He served in the United Sates Navy from July 1950 to July 1953. Devoted to his family, Don cared for his mother until the end of her life and was especially close to his two aunts, Martha and Dorothy Lloyd. He was a life long resident of Wilmington and worked for many years as a sales associate at Silo Inc. on the Philadelphia Pike.
Don was an avid fan of the University of Delaware football and women's basketball teams. He attended many games and loved to talk about sports with his friends and family. Ever optimistic, before every season Don could be heard predicting a National Championship for the Blue Hens.
He is survived by his cousins Richard Lloyd, Stephen Lloyd, Janice Lloyd, Susan MacPherson and many friends at Luther Towers II where he lived for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff of Luther Towers II for many years of assistance and support. They would also like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Francis Hospital and Hospice for their compassionate end of life care.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
