Stanley J. Trzonkowski Sr., 93, of Wilmington, Delaware died on April 16, 2014. Stanley was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3257. Serving in the Navy during WWII he spent 18 months in the South Pacific and three-months in the occupation of Japan. During his service in the Navy he received four battle stars and a commendation for rescuing 35 nurses and doctors thrown into the water from the USS Relief. In addition, he was present on the USS Missouri as a witness to the surrender of Japan. Upon return, he went to work for the Ralston Purina Company retiring after 25 years as a shipping supervisor. He retired a second time from the DuPont Company as a coordinator of building services.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, (married 72 years), his sons Stanley and wife Kathleen, Lawrence and wife Mary, and four grandchildren - Susan, Michael and wife Leslie, Laura, and Andrew.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 9-10:45 am at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Thursday, April 24th at 10:00 am.
