Ralph A. DiFonzo, Sr.

AGE: 91 • Wilmington

Of Pike Creek, formerly of Newport, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 22nd, surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. DiFonzo (PopPop to everyone) was a Union 626 Carpenter and retired from Berger Acoustical Company in West Chester, PA. Formerly, he was a US Army veteran serving in Normandy and the 203rd Engineer Combat Battalion. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the Phillies and Eagles games. He loved spending time with friends and family, and, most importantly, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. DiFonzo was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Marie P. DiFonzo, as well as his brother, Joseph Caserta Sr., and his sister, Jennie DeLuca.

Mr. DiFonzo is survived by his daughter, Kathleen M. DuPuis, with whom he lived; his son, Ralph A. "Butch" DiFonzo, Jr. and his wife, Linda; three grandchildren, Julianne Inozemcev (Eugene), Gregory DiFonzo, and Ronald DuPuis, Jr. (Jennifer); three great grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Sloan and Axel Inozemcev and his "buddy" Ryan DuPuis; sister-in-law, Viola Caserta; many nieces and nephews, who helped care for him and prepared meals; and his faithful companion, Codie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26th at 12 noon at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin. Friends and family are invited to visitation between 10 and 11:30 AM Saturday morning at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ashland, DE.

On behalf of Mr. DiFonzo, the family would like to thank the following for the wonderful care he received during the final weeks of his life: Rose, Alex and Sue from Griswold Care; from Heartland Hospice; nurses Stephanie, Lori, Amy, Judy; and all other staff who came in touch with our family.
