Beatrice Hoffman, 95, of Wilmington, DE., died suddenly on April 24, 2014, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington. Mrs. Hoffman was born in the Bronx, New York City as the daughter of Henry and Tena Freiberger. After graduating from Hunter College High School, she attended Hunter College in New York, where she majored in French Language and Early Childhood Education.
After working as a kindergarten teacher and a travel agent, she married Abraham Hoffman, of Newark and Wilmington, Delaware, an attorney, in June 1954. The couple resided in Wilmington for 53 years until Abraham's death at age 99 in May 2007. Mrs. Hoffman was proud to be a member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Wilmington since 1954 and was active in the Temple Sisterhood, including serving on the Sisterhood board of directors and as its historian. She was a life member of Women of Reform Judaism, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Kutz Home Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucy Shapiro, of Bethesda, Maryland, and Lucy's family, namely Lucy's husband Neil Shapiro and children Brandon and Jared, and a son, Louis Hoffman, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Louis's family, namely Louis's wife Kathy and children Seth and Ellie. She had one surviving nephew nearby, Larry Goldstein of Wilmington.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 29th at Congregation Beth Emeth, 400 Lea Boulevard, Wilmington. Mrs. Hoffman will be buried with her late husband at the Delaware Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Emeth.
