Obituary Condolences

William Matthias "Bill" Ford

Bill Ford, 48, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was a brave warrior against the colon cancer that he battled.

Bill was born in Yorklyn, DE to Willard F. and Janice C. Ford who pre-decease him. He is survived by his family - Christine Ford and son, Lance, Beverly and Edward Relyea and daughter, Tracy Stanley, Donna and Jessie Cowden and children, Mark and Mariah Blackwell and Mark and Melanie Ford and children, Andrew, Nathan and Haley. Bill is also survived by many relatives and special friends.

The youngest of five siblings, Bill was a lively and vibrant young man. He attended Yorklyn Elementary, H. B. DuPont Middle School and was a proud graduate of Alexis I. DuPont High School/Class of 1983. He played baseball and football with the Westover Wildcats while in Middle School and greatly enjoyed many years swimming at Yorklyn Pool- especially on the swim team- the "Yorklyn Yellow Jackets".

Bill loved music and books and had quite a collection of both. He particularly enjoyed Classic Rock - his favorite being The Beatles. Other favorites include everyone from The Who to Patsy Cline and Frank Sinatra to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Classical and Christian music. Bill was a voracious reader and enjoyed autobiographies, biographies, world history, world religion, travel and sports.

After graduation, Bill joined in the family business. For over 25 years, Ford and Blackwell were very successful custom painters whose craftsmanship can be found in some of the finest homes and estates in Delaware and the surrounding areas.

Continuing to manage the family business after his father's passing, Bill suffered an injury which impacted his ability to continue to do physical work. He was able to successfully transition his career and ultimately secured a position with Comcast Corporation where he truly excelled.

Bill was extremely proud of his employment with Comcast and approached his position with great energy. He received numerous performance awards during his three year career and had recently been selected for a new department to service Comcast's top tier customers before he was taken ill.

Our family would like to thank Bill's Oncologist, Dr. Guarino and everyone at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center for their kindness as they treated Bill over the past year. We would also like to share our gratitude to many at Delaware Hospice who lovingly cared for our brother and offered their support - especially Beth Kincaid and Michael DuPree.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Bill on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11AM at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. The family will begin receiving visitors at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Bill's memory to Colon Cancer Alliance or Delaware Hospice.
