John M. Stocking Obituary
John M. Stocking

AGE: 88 • Hockessin

John M. Stocking, age 88, of Hockessin, DE died on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Born on Bailey Hill he went on to grow up in Dundee in the beautiful finger lake region of New York state during the Great Depression, then served as Radar Operator in the Army Air Corp in the European Theater during WWII. He was a graduate from Bucknell University and worked as an accountant at the Atomic Energy Commission, Woodlawn Trustees, Patterson-Schwartz and Allegheny Commuter. After marriage to Jane his childhood sweetheart they adopted 4 children into their hearts and home. John was a lifelong Mason, enjoyed cars, especially his '64 Falcon convertible and spent extended summers with Jane RVing all over the U.S. visiting family and friends. John rode his bicycle 8-12 miles daily until he was 82 and in the twilight of his life it was not uncommon to hear him say "It's no disgrace to get old, it's just a damn inconvenience."

He is survived by their children: Audie Stocking of NV, Jani Daum (Leon) of VT, Juli (Miles) Codding of Hockessin & Chad (Ange) Stocking of Margate; grandchildren, Seth, Tara (Mark), Torin, John (Jess), Peter, Jason, Jonathan, great grandchildren Ashley & Lauren. He is pre-deceased by his wife Jane of 64 years.

A memorial service will be held at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike at noon on Saturday May 3, 2014 where friends may call beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 405 E. Marsh Lane, Suite 4, Newport, DE 19804 whom they would like to extend their gratitude to all who participated in his care.
