ROSE MARIE (TESTA) COLOMBO

May 22, 1918 - May 8, 2014

Mom died peacefully at home on Thursday May 8, 2014 two weeks before her 96th birthday. She was lifelong Wilmington area resident and the daughter of John and Julia Testa, Italian immigrants. She was married to Anthony A. Colombo for 62 years before his death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Cecilia in 2001. In addition she was preceded in death by her sisters Carmela Personti, Ann Patille, Josephine Fidance, and Anna Trincia, and her brothers Anthony Testa, John Testa and Joseph Testa.

She is survived by her son Thomas, and her sister Vera Bianchino and many nieces and nephews. Mom also wants to give a special thanks to Meghan her nurse and Joyce her aide, the caregivers who made her final days so pleasant and comfortable.

Mom was a person of strong faith and unwavering morals who was always dedicated to her family first. A gifted caregiver, she provided extended care for her terminally ill daughter and husband throughout their illnesses. She also cared for her terminally ill Mother as well as any family member or friend who needed her. She never questioned whether the task was too difficult or how she would find the time. She just did it.

Mom was a talented homemaker who was employed by families in Coffee Run, Hockessin and Wintergreen in Delaware, and in Mendenhall PA. She enjoyed cooking for family, friends and neighbors, and had been employed in the kitchens of Chestnut Run, Salesianum School and Red Clay School District. She enjoyed company and always had some type of sweet and coffee for her guests. Whatever her physical condition, she always looked forward to her weekly outing to her hairdresser.

Mom did not want a viewing and asked that her remains be cremated. We will celebrate her life on Tuesday May 13 with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10 AM at St. Joseph on the Brandywine RC Church. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a gift in Mom's memory may be sent to St. Joseph on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, De 19807-3096.
