AGE: 83 • Middletown

John W. "Jack" Banks, age 83, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 26, 1931, John was the son of the late Frank W. and Myrtle I. Banks. He attended local schools and graduated from Brown Vocational High School in 1949. John proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1951 until 1955 as a ground radio operator. He was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of SSgt. John would make his career with Diamond State Telephone, retiring in 1986 after many years of dedicated employment. He would later work for Roche Bio, the Airport Shuttle Company and also drove buses for the Red Clay Consolidated School District, Caravel Academy and the New Castle County Senior Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Ann Fox Banks and a son, David W. Roberts. John is survived by his children, Karen and Kevin Koppel, Mike and Phyllis Roberts and Jack and Heidi Roberts; grandchildren, Brian, Kelsy, Andrea, Samantha, Pamela Nicole, Bruce, Eric, Adam, Leica, Julie, Scott, Mandy, Tricia and Justin; and several great and great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Delaware, 619 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
