Frances B. Smith

AGE: 80 • Wilmington

Frances B. Smith, age 80 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 5, 2014.

She was born in 1933 in Claymont, DE, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (McNamara) Brady. Fran married her high school sweetheart, James, and celebrated 60 years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage they relocated to Connecticut. For the next 28 years, Fran was employed by Blake Equipment where she was well respected by her peers. 15 years ago Fran returned to Delaware to spend her retirement years with her family and friends and to pursue her interests.

During her free time, Fran was able to use her artistic talents in drawing and painting ceramics. She was a fantastic cook. Fran had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Another love of Fran's was caring for the many dogs she adopted over the years, whose unique personalities were a direct result of her love and devotion. All of these special attributes will surely be missed.

Fran is survived by her sister, Anna (Brady) Reiter (Wilmer); her brother, Donald Brady (Florence); many nieces and nephews and her dog, Zoey.

In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her husband, James; her brother, Charles Brady; and her sister, Catherine Faircloth.

Her family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Kim, Debbie, and Jen for their comfort and support.

A funeral service will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11:00am, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held privately with the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
