AGE: 54 • Houston, TX
John Amato died suddenly on June 1, 2014 in Lagos Nigeria, at the age of 54. John was born and raised in Wilmington Delaware, left in 1976 to join the military. He then has worked as a chef on oil rigs, living first in Louisiana, and since 1990, in Nigeria. In 2008 John's wife and children relocated from Nigeria to Texas and John has since maintained a transcontinental lifestyle so as to spend as much time possible with them. In addition to his love for his work and family, John was a writer, poet and true citizen of the world; his travels providing John a global view that far exceeded his provincial upbringing.
John was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Charity Stella; children: Silver, Michelle, Sarah Grace, Blessing, and Jeffrey; father, Joseph Amato and his wife Susan Amato; mother, Joan Feldner and her husband Karl Feldner; sisters, Jody Amato and Jill Amato; eldest brother, Joseph Amato, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. John was able to meet his first grandchild, one month old Jordyn Jones during his recent visit home. John's younger brother, Jeffrey Amato, preceded him in death on November 1, 1994.
John will receive military burial following private family services. To express an online condolence, please visit www.strano-feeley.com
