Frederick William "Fred" Wilson, Sr., age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on September 15, 1925, Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Clan Wilson and Louisa Gunther Wilson. He proudly served as a Merchant Marine during WWII. A lifelong truck driver, Mr. Wilson was a 30 year member of Teamsters Local #326. His last route was for the St. Joe Paper Company, from which he retired.

Mr. Wilson was a lifetime member of the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, where he held various offices over the years. An avid gun collector and excellent marksman, he was a member of the NRA and the Delaware State Pistol Club. Mr. Wilson was an ardent history buff and enjoyed collecting historical memorabilia. He adored spending time with and entertaining his family and friends, especially during the Christmas season. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, he will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Schell Wilson and his brother, Clarence "Rick" Wilson. Mr. Wilson is survived by his children, Darlene Massie (Homer) of Clayton, Fred Wilson, Jr. (companion, Donna) of Bear, Dennis Wilson of New Castle and Lynn Pudvan (Dave) of Newark; sisters, Doris Pyle and Louisa May Mitchell; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Sunday evening, June 22, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A second visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at The Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Wilson's name may be made to the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.
