Michael A. "Mike" O'Brian, Sr.

AGE: 81 • Newark

Michael A. O'Brian, Sr. passed away surrounded by family after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 17. Mike was born on July 2, 1932, in Montgomery, Indiana to the late Anastasia and Ottis O'Brian. He was self-employed and proud to be a business owner for 50 years - first as Kitchen Kountertops and then as Michael O'Brian & Sons. He developed intricate machinery for the production of cabinets and countertops.

Mike had a great sense of humor and lived life to the fullest - traveling the world. He served his country in the Air Force. His hobbies were flying single-engine planes, enjoying Nascar, fishing, and playing cards. He will be deeply missed.

Mike was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Catherine Michaels and Margaret O'Brian; his sons, Patrick and Joseph; and his canine companion "Lady."

He is survived by his wife, Regina "Jean" O'Brian; his son, Michael A. O'Brian, Jr. and his wife, Maryanne; his daughter, Mary Ann O'Brian and her companion, Mark Gazdzinski; his son, Stephen O'Brian and his companion, Teresa; his daughter, Karen and Greg Hudson; his daughter, Susan Reshetar and her husband, Dave; his son, Tom O'Brian; his daughter-in-law, Donna; and his brother, Patrick E. O'Brian and his wife, Jeanette of Montgomery, Indiana. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 901 E. Newport Pike Woodcrest, Wilmington on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, on Monday evening, June 23, from 6-8pm.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of his sons, donations may be sent to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4735 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
