Esther Huber, age 91, of Wilmington, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 26, 2014 in the presence of her loving daughter, Sande Richardson and the dedicated staff of Foulk Manor North.
Esther was born to the late John Lawrence and Mary Emma Green. She was the second youngest of nine children. During her youth she attended the Wilmington Public Schools. In 1952 she won second place in the Mrs. Delaware Pageant.
After her youngest child began school, Esther enrolled in The Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing at Hahnemann Hospital graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1952. She then served as a geriatric licensed practical nurse working at Kentmere, Gilpin Hall and Foulk Manor South nursing homes. In retirement, she and her husband spent 20 years as snowbirds, enjoying 6 months of the year at their second home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Over the years, she was an avid volunteer with many organizations.
Esther is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Fred K. Huber and by her first husband, Robert W. Clayton.
She is survived by her children; Bob Clayton (Litzie), George Clayton (Beverly), Carol Clayton and Sande Clayton Richardson, eight Grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at the Chester Bethel Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship House of Wilmington, P.O. Box 1517, Wilmington, DE 19899.
