Joseph Cyril Marvel, 62 of Newark, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Joe was born in Wilmington on July 15, 1951. He was employed in the steel industry in Claymont, most recently Evraz, and retired in 2013 after 42 years of dedicated service. An avid sports enthusiast, Joe was a fan of the Phillies, the Vikings and Notre Dame. He also enjoyed cooking on his grill, music, fishing, bowling and a day at the casino. He was a coin collector and had a deep interest in Norse Mythology. A devout Catholic, he attended St. John the Beloved Church and was very generous to others in their time of need. Family was first in his life, and Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas A. Marvel, Jr.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara (Facciolo) Marvel; his sons, Eric, Jason, and Bruce and his wife, Leila; his granddaughter, Hannah; his mother, Marie (Dougherty) Marvel; his siblings, Claire Lacey (Joseph), James, Thomas III, Rita Demko (Joseph), Patrick (Kelly), Michael, and Mary Sheridan (Gerry); his brother-in-law, John Facciolo (Paula) and sister-in-law, Rose Curry (Joe); and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, July 18 from 9:30-11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington at 11:30AM. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Red Cross, 100 W. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 (www.redcross.org).
