Reginald L. Thornton of Wilmington, Delaware departed this life on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He was 58 years of age. Reginald was born on February 3, 1956 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Jesse E. Thornton and Thelma E. Thornton. He was the third of five siblings. He grew up in Wilmington, Delaware where he received his education in the Wilmington Public School System. He left Wilmington in the early 1970s to enlist in the U.S. Army, where in his travel met the love of his life, Troylene "Troy." After 21 years of service, he retired. He then moved to Clinton, Maryland, where he went back to further his education and in doing so he acquired two degrees, one in engineering and the other in criminal justice. Later, he became a special policeman for the Museum of National Arts in Wilmington, DC. He was a man of many talents from fixing cars to gardening the yard. He enjoyed fishing, interior designing as well as exterior designing.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Troylene "Troy"; his sons, Terry, Chadrick, Chetrick, Reginald Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Rachelle; his daughter, Tina; his mother, Thelma Thornton; his brothers, Dennis Clack (Victoria), Jesse E. Thornton, Jr. and Timothy Thornton; his sister, Renee Wallace (Curtis); his grandchildren, Royale, Raven, Xavier, Patrick, Deanna, Brianna, Daquan, Alexis, Sky, Kayla and Passion; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at Centennial United Methodist Church, located at 44 E. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, DE, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Letters of condolence may be sent and guest book may be signed at Arrangements have been entrusted to Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
